Amanda Brugel

(February 27th, 2010 - Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a secluded community in the part of Montreal called the West Island. It is a part of the island that has been called "the West Island." West Island has a lot of different communities. Many who've never heard of it often confuse it with a separate island facing west. It is often cited as being the place of birth for Amanda Brugel but while that is true, her stay in the city was brief. Brugel was raised in Courtice, just outside of Oshawa. She had a dream to become a dancer, however a rapid growth rate resulted in her outgrowing her dance partner. An article in the Toronto Star article revealed she's 6 feet 1 inch tall and has heels. Once I surpassed the size of my male friends, I stopped. Brugel was one of many former dancers who turned to acting. The teacher she had at high school encouraged her to take the next step. It was her teacher who encouraged her to try out to play the character of Anne for their school's annual production. She tried out and ended up playing the role of the main character for the role in Anne of Green Gables. The show led her to receive the award of a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theatre Program and graduated with an Associate of Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. In the last 20 years, her roles in the world of television and on the screen have been varied. Her role as Rita in the award-winning show The Handmaid's Tale was her most famous. Brugel appeared only on rare instances in the initial season of The Handmaid's Tale. She was the only Canadian member.
